BACKGROUND INVESTIGATIONS

While I conduct extensive records searches and asset verification, the key to a good background investigation is the interview.  Throughout my experience as a private investigator, police officer and U.S. Intelligence Officer, I have honed my interview skills to a very high level.  I know how to look for signs of deception, but I also know how to build rapport and encourage people to talk.  Sometimes the key is just listening.

A thorough background investigation may include:

  • Motor vehicle records
  • Marriage & Divorce
  • Place of Employment
  • Criminal History
  • Court Records

A background check is not the same as a criminal record check.  A criminal check only looks at what law enforcement has on file, while a background check offers a broad overview of criminal records, employment, credit information, and employment.

A criminal history investigation is focused only on identifying any past or pending criminal activity.   Whether a person has  been arrested for a criminal offense, charged or convicted of a crime, placed on probation or parole, or incarcerated in prison.

A background investigation is designed to provide a more complete picture of a person, such as a new employee.

Employers who conduct background checks must comply with the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). This means they must obtain written consent from the person being investigated.  A private individual can request a background check for personal safety reasons.
